March in US Southwest is heavenly. Florid sunshine tempered by moderate temperature sanitize the harsh desert environ. Saguaro is a rare breed – a suburban National Park, 20 minutes from downtown Tucson, yet substantial and unique enough to offer a classy hike like Wasson Peak.
Saguaro cacti beautify the arid landscape and provide shelter for a host of animals. Above, a Northern Cardinal (?)
Hiding for much of the trail, Wasson finally revealed itself 3 miles into ascent. Below, views from the summit.
