There are 2 approaches to Cutthroat Pass, and I chose Cutthroat Lake TH simply for its proximity to Mazama. Rainy Pass TH offers less climbing, but no lakeside view.

the trail is broad and pleasant almost in its entirety.

It's a premier trail especially in Autumn.

An outstanding trail year-round but especially in Autumn

Arrived at the Pass which intersects with Pacific Crest Trail, a 2600 mile trail starting at Mexico border ending at Canada about 50 miles from this point. I ventured about one mile north on PCT.
