The notorious Hart Pass Road (FR 5400) to Slate peak is the highest public road in Washington state, and likely the most spine chilling; however, it provides gateway to several highly acclaimed trails including Windy Pass.

Hart Pass road is full of steep drop and blind hairpin.

Unfortunately, the cloudy weather in the valley turned into fog and drizzle in the mountains as I drove up to Slate Peak (7400 feet) first.

from Slate Peak parking lot, the fire LO is 1/4 mile walk from this path.

I did not reach Windy Pass as weather turning more inclement and retreated at 3+ mile mark.

Despite suboptimal weather, the vista still eerily beautiful.
