Mannlichen – Kleine Scheidegg (Switzerland)

Date: Aug. 24, 2016

Location: Mannlichen, Berner Oberland Region

Distance: 4.4km (2.7 mile) one way

Elevation loss: from 2233m to 2064m (7326 to 6768 ft)

One distinction about Berner Oberland alpine trails is that most TH are accessible by trains or gondolas, so hikers are propelled right into alpine nirvana without much climbing. This short and easy trail starts at Mannlichen Gondola station (the journey to there was spectacular itself).

Above, the iconic Junfrau Massif – Left = Monch Peak, Right = Jungfrau Peak. The structure on the ridge between is the train station, Jungfraujoch, Europe’s highest at 3400+M (11000+ ft)

The view was constant – the case for every one of the 4 trails we did. The town, Grindelwald in the background.
